With a large, well-placed posterior lateral heel slope and a rockered forefoot transition, the Olympus feels stable in the midfoot. There are reasonable amounts of sidewalls on the medial and lateral sides that help with lateral stability, even on hard surfaces.
With the grippy Vibram Megagrip on the outsole, this is a very durable hiking shoe. I have logged about 25 miles on mine, and they are looking great, with some slight wear in the lateral midfoot.
